Homebuyer Education and Counseling
What you should know...
During Orientation and Homeownership workshops, participants learn to assess their readiness to purchase a home. Working in conjunction with our professional staff, volunteer instructors from the real estate and mortgage industries help prospective homebuyers to understand the meaning behind the jargon. They learn how to maneuver through what, to the unitiated, can be dangerous waters. Most importantly, they learn about resources available that can increase their purchasing power. After completion of the Orientation, prospective homebuyers schedule a one-on-one appointment with a homeownership counselor to discuss their specific homebuying needs and determine if they are “mortgage ready.” Our counselors provide credit repair and budget counseling to those clients who are not ready to purchase a home.
NHSSV also provides an eight-hour Homeownership Workshop to “mortgage ready” first-time homebuyers. These classes have proven invaluable to all prospective first-time homebuyers. NHSSV also provides certification for those working with outside lending agencies who need to attend an eight-hour HUD-approved homebuyer education workshop.
All counseling services as well as the homebuyer education workshops are free.
