Press Release

New Leadership at NHSSV

October 6, 2011: Neighborhood Housing Services Silicon Valley (NHSSV) Board of Directors appointed Matthew Huerta as its new Executive Director. Mr. Huerta has over 10 years of experience in the Housing and Community Development industry most recently as the Director of Housing Development at South County Housing in Gilroy. As Director, he oversaw staff and a pipeline of over 1200 units of affordable multifamily and single family developments valued at over $360 Million. He serves on the Board of the California Coalition for Rural Housing and has served as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Salinas since 2006.

Mr. Huerta will lead a team of 20 professionals and oversee a $2.2MM annual operating budget and assets totaling over $13MM.  NHSSV is a unique non-profit housing resource provider and is the only federally & NeighborWorks America certified full cycle home ownership center in the San Jose area. NHSSV is the only non profit Fannie Mae certified seller and servicer in the State.

NHSSV provides homeownership and foreclosure prevention counseling, first and second mortgage financing, real estate services including short sale negotiation, and community building and organizing support. Since 1995, the organization's HomeOwnership Center has educated and counseled over five thousand prospective homebuyers and in the last 3 years NHSSV has prevented over six hundred homes from foreclosure.  Since 2001, NHSSV has provided direct loans to 350 low and moderate income homeowners for a total investment of over $112 Million in first and secondary mortgage financing. NHSSV has trained 200 neighborhood leaders to take action on issues most impacting their communities.

Matt Huerta’s vision for NHSSV is for the Agency to be the primary homeownership counseling and resource center in Silicon Valley. Mr. Huerta has set a new course for the organization that is expected to result in an increase in activity across all lines of business.

Through the organization’s Community Building and Organizing Program NHSSV will help neighborhood leaders identify the necessary tools to take on the social and economic challenges under the new paradigm of increasingly limited government resources. NHSSV will utilize and strengthen its grass roots connections so that its counseling, lending and real estate services continue to reach the underserved low and moderate-income members of the community. NHSSV will collaborate with other real estate professionals, financial institutions, non-profits, governmental agencies, and public officials to identify and implement innovative programs aimed at improving homeownership and home preservation for our workforce. The organization is committed to long-term integrated community development strategies where the beneficiaries are the primary drivers. NHSSV’s new business model which is based on outreach and collaboration will require many new communication tools including an updated website. Several members of NHSSV’s Board of Directors have contributed to this effort by donating funds necessary to revamp the website which was designed by Milestone Technologies. Please visit the NHSSV website to stay updated on homeownership opportunities, attend upcoming events or workshops, and take action on neighborhood development issues.
